At least I think I know . . . it's to make more money right? I mean the PG demographic is huge, largely influential and has the most money to waste. Not to mention teens and pre-teens use the theater like a social hang out so usually they're bound to spend more money than the average adult. But recently I was having an argument with someone who claimed that the explanation for all the PG ratings has to do with religion. To quote him directly "no, they are made tame because the crazy christians have got more power than ever in the US..and that means that they are PG movies " My response was that Sweeney Todd was rated R, got nominated and won an Oscar and made $52,829,046. Disturbia on the other hand was rated PG, wasn't nominated (for an Oscar) and made $80,209,692. He answered this with 'why then is the MPAA whining about losing money because of piracy.' Not sure what piracy has to do with making money off a specific rating but okay. Maybe I'm wrong though, about the Christian influence - I don't know. Any thoughts? |
