| Well, I hated Transformers. Mostly because I hate LeBouf, Bay, and it wasn't my kind of movie. I loved Speed Racer though. Being a jaded moviegoer, I was on the fence about watching the movie. Normally, I am just interested in foreigns, indies, Apatow comedies, musicals, and the Dark Knight. But, I decided to see it at our local Digital cinema. It was fantastic. The colors, the child-like quality, the Japan inspiration, the cast, the cars, etc. It was just fun. Like, seeing Hairspray at the cinema. Plus, it was in all of its digital glory. There's just something optimistic about it that the last two Matrixes lacked. It was well-cast with Emile Hirsch as the shining lead, Ricci as the fun girlfriend, Goodman as the greco-roman wrasslin Pops, Fox in a more fun role than Jack on Lost, etc. Acting was on par, the car races were amazing, the angles of shots, etc. They didn't try to Poochy anything up and they remained faithful to its Japanese style. 3/4 of the way through the movie, I felt like a kid again, releasing the movie critic for a moment, and just purely enjoying it. Without it feeling nostalgic. Which is why I'm not into seeing Indiana Jones. I'm just glad I saw something I liked at the cinema. |
