I distrust this person's opinion, and I realized why- the Transformers movie. Speed Racer has: A flawed male lead who the audience is supposed to identify with so that later on when he pulls out all the stops you're supposed to care. Speed Racer has: A questionable "dark side" to the movie that half the audience thought was genius and the other half were throwing up in the back of their mouths. (is this movie really appropriate for the young children it's aimed at?) (The part with the government agents was so retarded I almost walked out) Speed Racer: Is based around a children's cartoon, but has changed virtually everything and only bears a superficial resemblance to the media on which it's based. They're the same movie. Show of hands- how many people who thought that Transformers was a revolutionary and forward-thinking movie also think the same of Speed Racer? I'm gonna bet there's a very strong correlation there. This isn't some sort of moviemaking revolution, it's a pretty clear formula at this point. I hated Transformers on virtually all levels, and I can almost guarantee I wouldn't like Speed Racer whatsoever if I saw it, which I might have to just to test my theory. |
