The most obvious one is that it was the most popular movie out of the bunch since it was the highest grossing movie and has been out on DVD longer than the other four. Notch picked up on the second one which is that the site is visited/populated by the same people that 300 was targeted towards. It's likely that No Country and Blood split the vote between each other but a lot of people saw the former more than the latter (but there's still enough people to make an impact though). Can I just suggest that people stop arguing over the 'favourite/best' thing? It's just a really petty issue, and the two terms go hand in hand with each other a lot. Someone brought up the terms quality and preference. Well, wouldn't you prefer what has the best quality? I think that There Will Be Blood is the best movie of the year, and it's also my favourite. I think we should just leave it at the two terms being separate but complimentary to each other. I'm still interested in knowing if having an open vote vs a members only would make any difference though. I was thinking of making a poll here with the five noms for favourite movie and seeing how that goes but I'd probably just be stirring the pot some more. Even though I didn't like this year's winners I don't think the golden schmoes are terrible. I might have complained last year from being on a Children of Men high ("it should win everything!!!") but looking back '06 had great picks for winners. My biggest disappointment this year, though it's perfectly easy to understand why, is Once not winning best music. Hopefully people will tune in to the Oscars and know what they missed out on when Hansard/Irglova perform. |
