Not easily, but who's dismissing anything easily? Besides, creating a movie based on a comic book character isn't the same as reproducing a book. Still, even then, Lord of the Rings made many changes to make the movie better. Had it been a verbatim translation, it would of sucked for everyone that isn't like me, and even I wouldn't have liked it as much. Additionally, LOTR is already a fantasy story grounded in magic and mythos. Redundo's point revolves around the fact that he doesn't think Iron Man is as good a movie if it's treated like fantasy grounded in magic and mythos. I think it's a valid point. Quote: If there's a way to make an improvement, I'm all for it, but I'm not a fan of the "screw that comic stuff!" mentality. It would be the equivalent of telling you "I hate the NBA and I don't watch it" and then bitching about Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Depends on the situation. Everything has to be treated case-by-case. Again, there was nothing invalid about what Redundo had to say. If he thinks Iron Man is a better movie grounded in reality that's fine. Quote: If someone doesn't want to read comics, that's fine by me. The problem is, is that Iron Man IS based off of a comic book. If non comic book fans want to see it, and enjoy it, that's great. They can also choose to not enjoy it, which is fine. And you can also say if comic book fans want to see it and enjoy it, that's great. They can also choose not to enjoy it, which is fine. Eliminating all fan service is stupid, but making only fan service is stupid as well. Quote: But to try to find ways to remove the source material from Iron Man in order to make it "more realistic" just beucase someone doesn't like comic books is a bit unrealistic, and breaks the mold of what the film is trying to do: make a comic book movie, and make it work. A good example is Spider-Man 2, a bad example is Batman & Robin. It only breaks the mold of what the film is trying to do if that's what the film is trying to do. Iron Man can remove or insert all the source material it wants, and as long as it is made to be the best movie possible, there is nothing wrong with that. If they want to be a verbatim recreation of the comics, they won't eliminate anything that is not fairly realistic. If they don't want that, they will. If they wan't something in the middle, they'll do that, too. Quote: Comic book movies are what they are, and hopefully, they will be the better for it (unless it's Catwoman, which deserves to have everyone involved in it banned from Hollywood). I'm for making things realistic (or modern, depending on the source material), but not for taking down the entire concept because "all comic books are over the top stuff." That's fine, neither am I. And frankly, I don't think Redundo is either, he's just for taking out some of the concept, not the entire concept. And if he is for taking out the entire concept, that's fine, too. He has a valid argument. |
