Especially on the mindset of "let's remove some of those fantasy elements, because it's so over the top!" If there's a way to make an improvement, I'm all for it, but I'm not a fan of the "screw that comic stuff!" mentality. It would be the equivalent of telling you "I hate the NBA and I don't watch it" and then bitching about Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. If someone doesn't want to read comics, that's fine by me. The problem is, is that Iron Man IS based off of a comic book. If non comic book fans want to see it, and enjoy it, that's great. They can also choose to not enjoy it, which is fine. But to try to find ways to remove the source material from Iron Man in order to make it "more realistic" just beucase someone doesn't like comic books is a bit unrealistic, and breaks the mold of what the film is trying to do: make a comic book movie, and make it work. A good example is Spider-Man 2, a bad example is Batman & Robin. Comic book movies are what they are, and hopefully, they will be the better for it (unless it's Catwoman, which deserves to have everyone involved in it banned from Hollywood). I'm for making things realistic (or modern, depending on the source material), but not for taking down the entire concept because "all comic books are over the top stuff." Fafhrd |
