This is not to say I didn't like 'Last Action Hero'. Many aspects of it were quite enjoyable, though the over-the-top action was as boring as it always is in any movie. I loved the brief use of Mozart music, and the many sight gags and references to other movies. I like LAH a lot, although it could stand a trim of 20-30 minutes. All kinds of films get referenced in it--from Amadeus (obvious), to High & Low, to Road Runner cartoons and even, as I mentioned recently, the book and/or film The Diary Of Anne Frank (super,super odd). I think it is a bit much to call it a rip-off, since the tone and intent are vastly different (as opposed to, say, Stardust Memories and 8 1/2) . |
