Forum: JoBlo | In terms of box-office, The Dark Knight will obviously be #1 for the comic book films, followed by Iron Man or Hancock (toss up), then The Incredible Hulk, followed by Hellboy II. The Dark Knight obviously first because well, it just will be. I will be interested in seeing the box-office run of Iron Man. It's not exactly a hugely popular character, but it is popular nonetheless and should do quite well. Hancock has Will Smith, and it just looks like a plain fun movie that summer movie buffs are all going to flock to. The Incredible Hulk will rely completely on word of mouth. Ang Lee's version only made $132 million, and I don't expect this one to make much more than that, first of all because people are going to be royally confused whether it is a remake (in which case they won't see it) or if it is a sequel (in which case it will do worse than Ang Lee's version because of the poor word of mouth of that version). It is neither of those, but regardless, it won't do better than Ang Lee's version, it just won't. And don't underestimate the power of Will Smith's box-office power. Hancock will outperform The Incredible Hulk. Hellboy II is going to have a rough time. It has Hancock in front of it and The Dark Knight right behind it. The first one didn't do that well, and although its word of mouth was good, it was more hardcore fans who loved it, while mainstreamers thought it wasn't very good. Here are my box-office total predictions for the comic book/superhero films of summer 2008: 1. The Dark Knight- $400 million
2. Hancock- $280 million
3. Iron Man- $250 million
4. The Incredible Hulk- $130 million
5. Hellboy II- $90 million |
