Odeon cinemas in my, home town its god awful in technical terms. It’s mostly down to presentational standards while most take it for granted expecting fine image and sound. It’s the sound that often fails to meet high expectations, with the growing increase in new technologies each year, or within a few months where some piece of hardware has become obsolete. The cinemas sound is considerable outdated in the PA loudspeaker area, the stage speakers date back to the 1960’s when they installed three Altec A4 for the old Cinerama era. Only 8 years ago they updated the cinemas Dolby processor which is the heart of the decoding process along with new amplifiers, but with the incredible demands of digital soundtracks with increased dynamic range where the amplifiers, are all up to the task, the loudspeakers fall flat on there face! And yes I’ve paid a portion over the years, to listen and listen is just about it. You can’t feel the emotional impact of larger than life sounds on the big screen without cursing audible distortion that sounds, flabby no punch at high sound pressure levels non what so ever. If they had replaced the stage speakers along with sub bass arrays rather than wasting there own time and my money to listen to the worse surround in the cinema. Yes they replaced the crappy two surround speakers that they where using, yes embarrassing. Some 16 surrounds surround the auditorium, but it’s a complete mess a disaster, who ever installed it needs to be shot then tied to back end of the car and dragged around the town. The Matrix Dolby SR-D Mission to Mars Dolby SR-D Star Wars episode 1 Dolby SR-D Star Wars episode 2 Dolby SR-D Entrapment Dolby SR-D House on Haunted Hill Dolby SR-D Minority Report Dolby SR-D Mission Impossible 2 Dolby SR-D Raiders of the Lost Ark late show Dolby stereo A Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Dolby stereo SR Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Dolby stereo SR Batman begins dts A few years later they installed dts claming and claiming they had the best sound in town. Oh what a laugh that was nearly 100dbA of too loud and no bass and that was the last film I saw there Batman Beings in dts, rubbish! Other wasteful shows are, oh the horror I can’t list them but the above didn’t come near to my expectations not even close not even warm absolutely rubbish. Poor management is what it comes down to at the end of the day. I want my money back! |
