| Quote: One needs to look no further than the concept of the Force which is SW doublespeak for magic. Ok, but how about blasters, or spaceships, or aliens, or hovercars, or everything else IN star wars? Just because one aspect blurs the line doesn't mean you can throw out the rest of the film. Plus, as was mentioned, the force could simply have been another name for telekinesis which would be scientific. (Could have, if you ignore the midichlorians.) I'd have to say one litmus test for sci-fi or fantasy is do they use "practical" or "fantastic" methods to achieve the currently impossible. Star Wars clearly demonstrates using practical means for the most part (engines, guns, machinery in general). And I still say Princess Bride makes less sense on there than Wonka. |
