For the most part, buzz about a Superman film had been HUGE. How many people were out there saying that X-Men 3 was going to suck since Singer left and Superman was going to be the big film of the year? I think they were expecting it to be another Spider-man. Instead they got Batman type response at the Box Office. I don't think moving it would have helped all that much. Maybe boosted numbers a little in its second week, but not enough to really matter. If they had opened it earlier in the summer to catch that beginning of summer energy they might have gotten a lift, but that would have pitted it against X-Men which wouldn't have helped. Instead, X-Men got to be the juicy start-of-summer action flick which probably gave it a small leg up. |
