| I've also read there is a 50-50 split most times, but I read that on blockbusters (like Superman Returns) the studio negotiates with the theaters and gets 80%-90%, the first week or two, and then it drifts down to an equal split. I can't imagine that this movie will not be profitable. In addition to US and oversees box office (and a lot of movies oversees are sold as a right to distribute, rather than a portion of box office take, sometimes they are pre-sold and used to finance the movie, but that's typically with smaller movies), there is DVD, pay-per-view, television, and all that Superman merchandise. Plus the additional interest in the original movies which results in a few extra bucks for the studio. The movie isn't a bomb by any stretch, but the key will be if they make another one. We can be pretty sure they made a few dollars if that is the case. |
