Forum: Film Hobbit | | I think O-Redd has a point that a lot will be lost on people who didn't see the original 2 Superman films. Josh, I don't think he means the first two were awful, just that they were made a long time ago but this movie relies heavily on the premise they set up. It's not a total loss, Superman Returns can stand on its own two feet; however, there's a lot of back story that you have to know to really get it all and for the younger audiences who didn't see the earlier films, that could put a huge dampener on things, especially the Superman/Lois having a child angle. I'm not seeing Routh better than Reeves. Someone explain that too me, please. Routh's Superman lacks the same charisma that Reeves had. I don't buy it's a character choice. When he rescues the plane and goes on board to see if everyone's all right, it didn't have nearly the same energy that Reeve's had in the parallel helicopter rescue scene in Superman: The Movie. The only place where I felt Routh really owned the character were the angry scenes. When he arrives at the fortress to find the crystals stolen...that was a nice piece of nuance, even if he didn't get to say anything. |
