My wife immediately said, "Little Shop of Horrors." Try as we might, we couldn't think of any other examples of this "film --> stage musical --> movie musical" life cycle. Are these the only two? Somewhat related is _The Brady Bunch Movie_ (and superior sequel, _A Very Brady Sequel_), which was a TV show that became a stage play that became a movie. Can't think of other examples of that, either. Can anyone else? Doug Well, there's always this combo... Jean Poiret's play, Le CAge aux Folles, becomes a movie of the same title, still in French, then becomes an American stage musical, then, stripped of its songs, becomes The Birdcage... So, play to movie to stage musical to movie (no music) John Harkness A few others: KISMET: Stage play / movie (at least 3 versions) / stage musical / movie musical NOTHING SACRED (movie) / HAZEL FLAGG (stage musical) / LIVING IT UP (movie comedy-musical) GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES: movie / stage musical / movie musical and the odd case of FANNY: movie / stage musical / movie based on the musical but without its songs, which served as background score Abfou |
