I don't agree with the above interpretation of "cult." I think that the "cult" moniker is applicable when the film has a fanbase with an obsessive and emotional attachment to a film. This can be independent of the film's critical standing or broadbased appeal. The Star Trek universe certainly has a cult following, but there are many who enjoy the TV shows and movies without being part of the cult. The Sound Of Music and The Wizard Of Oz are both evergreen movies; I would consider the latter a cult movie, but not the former. Jay This space intentionally left blank.
