I'd take Call Northside 777, True Grit, Dark Corner and Kiss of Death over Easy Rider and Last Movie in a heartbeat. I've been wondering about Hathaway lately, especially since so *many* of his films are out on DVD these days (for example, North to Alaska is now out in a pretty cheap edition). The guy was nothing if not productive, and most of his films are watchable, but he's considered a journeyman at best. Anyone else have some favourite Hathaways, or even least favourite? Does the guy have any distinguishing characteristics in him at all, or is he just a rung up the ladder from Norman Taurog? swac enquiring minds want to know. |
