But if you want it spelled out, I don't think voluntary employment (it's not conscription), and recognition of above average performance, is exploitation. The exploitation comes in "praising 'em" as a profitable substitute for "paying 'em", and as a means of squeezing 'em for their competitive juices. If my kid worked at McDonald's and won employee- of-the-month, I'd hope it was with a deep ulterior motive... the more Machiavellian the better... If your kid won employee of the month, without a raise coming with it, he could stop by Burger King and show them his award and ask for a job and salary upgrade. |
