TIDES OF WAR might be a better bet for a Pressfield movie now we've had Thermopylae. With David Beckham playing Alcibiades of course. I liked 'Tides of War', but was disappointed that it didn't have more of Socrates in it, since Alcibiades was part of his circle. Even near the end, with Socrates right there, the only connection was with a Socrates devotee who assisted Alcibiades' killer. Also, I didn't understand why the siege and near-starvation of Athens wasn't related, even though the earlier plague was shown in gruesome detail. An excellent book anyway, but I think 'The Last of the Wine' was greater, overall. By David Beckham, I assume you mean the athlete, and though he has a powerful personality, does he have the acting ability to play Alcibiades? |
