Where can this historical record be found? Herodotus doesn't mention it. Really? I'm surprised. OK, I was wrong. I didn't check all of Herodotus last night, but in everything I could find in it about Thermopylae and Leonidas, including the index references, there was nothing. It's conceivable that he said something about it somewhere else in the book, so I'm not claiming final knowledge here. Well I have the impression that I'd heard about killing the Persian envoys before the movie came out, but on later consideration I have no idea where. It could have been from a totallly fictional source. |
