Do you have any idea just how many newspapers there are in NA, and what a small percentage of those the papers you've named represent?? i don't know how many dumbass papers there are in the US. we're talking about papers that MOST people read. most new yorkers living outside NY city read new york times. most illinoisians read the tribune. most people who read them are boobs. yet, these papers still hire critics who have above-boob tastes. why? your point is pointless because 99% of papers in the US never ever had movie critics. heck, every town has a weekly review or publication. we know 'dungville life' isn't gonna be about movies but about hog auctions. but, let's look at papers where people do expect to find movie stuff: the major papers and alternative weeklies. now, i can understand why the latter would have firstrate critics cuz people seek those papers out for cultural info. but, major papers pander to the mass readership so we must wonder why they even bother to hire good critics when these tastes of such critics are so much at odds with regular tastes. tink abot it. |
