Written and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, it premiered in Japan on Nagoya Broadcasting Network between April 7, 1979 and January 26, 1980, spanning 43 episodes. It was the very first Gundam series, which has subsequently been adapted into numerous sequels and spin-offs. The series was later re-edited for theatrical release and split into three movies in 1981. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko did the character designs and Kunio Okawara was responsible for the mechanical designs, including the titular giant robot, the RX-78-2 Gundam. Universal Century 0079: The Principality of Zeon has declared its independence from the Earth Federation, and subsequently launched a massive war of independence, a war which has raged in every continent on earth and in nearly every space colony and lunar settlement. Zeon has the upper hand through their use of a revolutionary new type of weapon, their humanoid mobile suits. When a Zeon recon team disobey mission orders and begin attacking Side 7 its citizens stumble across the Federation's latest weapon: the Gundam. With the aid of Earth Federation soldiers stationed aboard the MS carrier White Base the newly formed crew of refugees set out to change the course of the One Year War — or die trying. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (機動戦士Zガンダム, Kidō Senshi Z Gandamu?) (aired 1985–1986) was a televised anime, one of Gundam series and a sequel to the original Mobile Suit Gundam. The show was written and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, with character designs by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, while the series' mechanical designs were split amongst Kunio Okawara, Mamoru Nagano, and Kazumi Fujita. The series was originally aired by Nagoya Broadcasting Network (and it's sister ANN stations), rerun on the anime satellite television network, Animax, across Japan and later its respective networks worldwide, including Southeast Asia, East Asia, Latin America, and other regions. Zeta Gundam takes place in UC 0087, seven years after the end of the One-Year War. After the events of Operation Stardust, which is told in Gundam 0083, the Earth Federation establishes an elite division called the Titans to hunt down the remaining pockets of Zeon resistance. The Titans become overzealous in their mission, and start to use brutal methods to reach their goals. In the end Titans become nothing more than ruthless tyrants with an ambition to rule the Earth Sphere. Two resistance groups, the AEUG (Anti-Earth Union Cyborg 009 Cyborg 009 (サイボーグ009 Saibōgu Zero-Zero-Nain) is a manga created by Shotaro Ishinomori. It was serialized in many different magazines, including Monthly Shōnen King, Weekly Shonen Magazine, Monthly Shonen Jump, COM, Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Weekly Shōnen Big Comic, SF Animedia, and Shōjo Comic in Japan. The manga was published in English by TOKYOPOP; as of 2006 it is out of print. It is the tale of nine regular humans kidnapped by the evil Black Ghost organization to undergo human experiments. The result of this tampering are nine cyborgs, each one having super human powers. The nine cyborgs band together to fight for their freedom and to stop Black Ghost. The evil organization's goal is to start the next world war, by supplying any rich buyers with their choice of countless weapons of war and mass destruction. Elements of this series would later find their way into Kamen Rider (1971), another famous creation by Ishinomori. The plots are the same, except that the weekly threats are mutants, and there is just one hero (later two), as opposed to nine. |
