Its original creator was Ryousuke Takahashi of Armored Trooper Votoms fame who served as the writer and wrote the scripts for such shows as Panzer World Galient, Tetsuwan Atom, Zero Testor, Fang of the Sun Dougram, Cyborg 009, and Blue Gender. The show was a ratings failure in its second arc for several reasons.[citation needed] Originally slated for 52 episodes, the series was cut short due to a number of production problems, including stiff competition from such high profile shows such as Zeta Gundam and later Gundam Double Zeta, along with a loss of market share due to poor merchandising sales. With competition from products produced by such shows as Super Beast Machine God Dancougar, and Ninja Senshi Tobikage, SPT Layzner was lost amongst a rush of toys and other merchandise that made it fail in gaining a household name. Furthermore, the second arc of the show contained plot elements that mirrored the real-life German occupation of France, but more significantly, the Japanese occupation of Korea. It ended early after just 38 episodes, well short of the estimated 52, and the final episode in particular was viewed as rushed and incomplete. Due to the ambiguous nature of the series' conclusion, Toshiba later acquired the rights and released three compilation OVAs with the final "chapter" containing an extended version of the ending which presents a more comprehensive finale. Mazinger Z Mazinger Z (マジンガーZ(ゼット), Majingā Zetto?) (無敵鐵金鋼), derived from the original romaji majinga and also known in the US as Tranzor Z, is the name of a manga by artist Go Nagai, first published in Japan in 1972, and turned into a long-running anime television series later in the same year. The series lasted for 92 episodes, making it the longest running anime mecha series in the genre. It remains the touchstone of the Super Robot anime genre and its influence is still felt today. The opening theme, also titled Mazinger Z, is sung by Ichiro Mizuki. The Super Dimension Fortress Macross The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (超時空要塞マクロス, Chō Jikū Yōsai Makurosu?, lit. "Trans Time Space Fortress Macross") is an anime television series. According to story creator Shoji Kawamori, it depicts "a small love triangle against the backdrop of great battles" during the first Human-alien war. Macross is a science fiction series that combines giant transforming robots, apocalyptic battles, wartime romance, and victory through the use of various unconventional means, including bubblegum pop music. It features mechanical designs by Kazutaka Miyatake and Kawamori (both of Studio Nue) and character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto. In addition, Macross created one of the first anime idols Lynn Minmay, turning her voice actress Mari Iijima into an instant celebrity, and launching her musical career. Most of its animation (with edited content and revised dialogue) was adapted outside of Japan for the first saga of Robotech. |
