I must have watched this movie very close to 100 times...It used to be my absolute favourite of all time. It's still high on my favourites, though....it really is a masterpiece: not only is it quite possibly Scorsese's best film visually, but it is an extremely profound and challenging film. There are no easy answers with the story. If you liked the movie I highly reccomend the novel by Joe Conelly...while maybe the movie isn't my top favourite anymore, the book is still my favourite book. I have to bring it with me wherever I end up living. So it's been everwhere I've been. Very sentimental. I never really understood why this wasn't appreciated more as a film. Just look at Scorsese's resume AFTER he made it: 3 films, 2 of them being nominated for best picture Oscars, one of them WINNING of course. Too bad BOTD didn't get caught up in the resurgence of Scorsese love mania. But seriously: brilliant, brilliant, fantastic, wonderful, amazing amazing film!!!!
