Just because their members make the movies doesn't mean their choice is the valid one. Just take a little history trip with past winners vs. the ones nominated and I'm sure you'll see what i mean even if you agree that NCFOM this time around was the best of all nominated. You don't have to take my word at all, you don't know me, but just don't be so naive to think that the Academy's choice for best film automatically means it's the best film of the year. Case in point, Tilda Swinton was excellent in Michael Clayton and I'm happy for her but this year Cate Blanchett was simply superb in I'm Not There and she should of won. According to your philosophy though, Swinton was the best because she got the award. If this had been an episode on Forensic Files or special on A&E it would've been ten times more thrilling to me. The whole movie is a forensic film without the thrill of forensics and then it thinks that since it has characters in it that this fact will transcend it from that type of television genre, except the characters are barely written. We pass through Graysmith's life like an aside because we just gotta get to the next landmark of the Zodiac timeline. And the same goes for all the other characters in the film. Just because someone was the inspiration for Bulitt and like Animal crackers isn't enough to make them interesting. Fincher would've probably been better off making this as a four part mini-series on HBO. Probably would've been a lot more fascinating and more intriguing. 100% agree. I don't even know why we're talkng about Zodiac since it (deservedly, i think) didn't get any nom but this film is waaaaaaaay overrated by the schmoes on these boards. It's way too long, boring, and it treats its audience as if they're morons (case in point: i don't need be told that it takes 2 1/2 hours to travel by plane from city to another, it's assumed like so many other time shifts that Fincher slapped on annoyingly). |
