A fairly satsfying bunch of winners on the whole and the awards show engaging enough throughout -- why weren't clips from the 5 Best Picture nominees shown though?... Some standout moments for me included: - Daniel Day-Lewis winning. Nuff said. - Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton (the former, for me, was the most beautiful looking woman of the night btw), both of whom seemed genuinely moved and surprised at their respective wins, and their speeches were among my favorites out of all the winners. I now want to see Michael Clayton based on Swinton's win alone, she's such a terrific character actress (see Orlando, The Deep End, and Young Adam especially) who's definitely long overdue. ..bah, I'll just say that all the acting winners made me happy, and that of course includes Javier Bardem - "Falling Slowly" and Marketa Irglova finishing up her speech -- I'm not the biggest fan of Once or Irglova in that movie by any means, but that song is a highlight and it was nice to see them perform. - Jon Stewart was pretty funny - The Coens. I have absolutely no idea where the hostility and resentment is coming from (this is coming from someone who thought that P.T.A. and TWBB deserved the Best Director & Picture Oscars by a mile), their speeches were perfectly fine. Some drawbacks: - The omission of Brad Renfro from the In Memorium section. What. The. Hell? - The Golden Compass for Best Visual Effects? Hell no?!!! - Enchanted songs overload - The Bourne Ultimatum's wins
