Jesus Christ, given the sudden animosity towards the Coens, I'd love to see the bloodshed on here if Reitman had won for Director. So PTA doesn't win anything this year. Big effing deal. Spielberg was nominated five times before he finally got Director and Picture for Schindler's List. Hell, The Color Purple was nominated for 11 Oscars and didn't get anything that year. Mark my words: PTA will make a film in a few years that deservedly sweeps all of the major award categories, and people will probably still end up bitching about how Nolan/Del Toro/Fincher got shafted out of their long-overdue golden statues. And just for the record, I thought the Coens' speeches were great. Just because they don't stand there blubbering into the microphone thanking everyone that pops into their head doesn't mean it was a bad speech. They're obviously uncomfortable speaking about their work in front of such large crowds; I'd probably be the same way. Christ, they said "Thank you," isn't that enough? Overall, I was very pleased with how the awards ceremony turned out. And whilst Cate is a great actress, it was nice to see David Bowie win for Best Supporting Actress.
